The FAO has released a useful new publication for small and medium forest enterprises.
This guide is intended to provide a framework for forest management planning with a focus on multiple-use and SMFEs. It leads the forest manager through the planning process in a stepwise fashion and provides advice on sources of information that are needed during the planning process. The frameworks presented can be adapted to national and local context in line with relevant regulatory requirements.
This guide has three main parts:
- Part I provides the background, including an introduction to the concept and evolution of forest management planning, multiple-use aspects and planning considerations for SMFEs. It also describes the general planning process.
- Part II guides the readers through the processes of data collection and analysis, focusing on the use of approaches and tools that are accessible, affordable and easy to use. Data collection may need to be repeated as conditions change or when forest management objectives are revised.
- Part III deals with the compilation of the forest management plan, from deciding on the format of the plan, setting forest management objective, and to developing a management plan for each forest management objective. Preparedness planning for natural disasters and accidents is also covered. Finally, guidance on developing a monitoring and evaluation system is provided.
This FAO Forestry Working Paper 39 is titled “A guide to multiple-use forest management planning for small and medium forest enterprises”, FAO, Rome, 2023. The author was Hubertus van Hensbergen. Source

The spare parts catalogue now includes all models of Komatsu Forest machines.
It has also become easier to find the right spare part and to compile a list for ordering. These are some of the new features in the update of Komatsu Forest's spare parts catalogue. Finding the right spare part should be easy, and this is something Komatsu Forest have taken on board in the latest update of the spare parts catalogue. In addition to expanding the catalogue so that all machine models are represented, a new filter has also been introduced, which greatly simplifies the search. All one must do is enter your machine's serial number in the search field and the content will be filtered to show only spare parts suitable for your machine.
The ordering process has also been simplified by making it possible to add parts to a parts cart. Once you have selected the parts you want, you can save the list as a PDF, or send it to any email address. This allows you to find the spare parts you need at your leisure and then email your order to your spare parts dealer at your convenience.
With these new improvements, Komatsu Forest trust that finding the job of ordering spare parts will be both easier and more flexible. Find the link in the Service menu, under Spare parts & Accessories. Source

The event was marked by the unveiling of Platinum Editions of the 3CX and 4CX models.
Company founder Joseph Cyril Bamford CBE invented the backhoe concept and the first JCB model was manufactured in 1953 after he combined a lightweight backhoe with a Major Loadall tractor loader. It created, for the first time, a single machine which combined a front shovel and rear excavator arm.
While it took 20 years for JCB to build its 50,000 backhoes, under the leadership of JCB Chairman Anthony Bamford, more than 900,000 have now been made. JCB has been world market leader for backhoes for almost 25 years and today manufactures the iconic machine in the UK, India, and Brazil. A total of 70 limited-edition 70th birthday 3CX PRO and 4 CX PRO machines will be manufactured.
The backhoe loader is a versatile machine and thanks to continued innovation and evolution, it remains just as relevant today as the day it was first invented. The JCB backhoe loader remains one of the most popular pieces of construction equipment in the world and it has a very exciting future ahead of it.
The Platinum Edition models will have servo excavator controls, Powerslide, air conditioning and bi-directional auxiliary flow hydraulics. The machines will bear limited edition Platinum decals and grille badge. They will have Platinum-coloured wheels, while in the cab there will be an embroidered graphic in the carpet and upgraded seat material with 70th anniversary branding, along with a steering wheel centre cap featuring the 70th logo. Each machine will also have a special plaque and customers will receive a special Platinum gift pack with the backhoe loader.
Over the last seven decades JCB has continued to develop and enhance the backhoe loader concept, with turbocharged engines, powershift transmissions, all-wheel drive and extending dipper arms. The machine has broadened in appeal, with the launch of the skid-steer based 1CX, the all-wheel steer 3CX Compact and the larger 4CX and 5CX equal-sized wheel machines. Source

It is a multi-purpose tiller that successfully handles a wide range of tasks.
The Multiforst can crush stones up to 25 cm (10 in) in diameter and mulch wood up to 40 cm (16 in) in diameter, making it perfect for above surface cleaning and ground preparation. With a working depth of up to 30 cm (12 in) and more, this machine adapts to the specific needs of the terrain.
Equipped with a V-Lock rotor and Ultra Mono Protect+ fixed tools with carbide inserts, the Multiforst offers good performance even in the most difficult conditions. With multiple speeds of the rotor, the Multiforst can be adapted easily to the variety of tasks and so ensure efficiency in fuel consumption, durability of wear components and an exceptional finish of the job. All wear subjected surfaces are protected from interchangeable Wear Plates made from tough materials such as AR400. This allows proper easy maintenance for very long service life of the machine.
Regardless of whether the standard version or the optional 2SPEED version is being chosen, the machine will provide you the versatility to complete land clearing job with one man, one tractor and one Multiforst.
Applications include ensuring that the soil is ready for new crops or trees, helps clean up forest debris and prevents pests, contributes to the creation of durable forest roads by crushing, recycling and levelling the present material and due to a unique rotor design, a very homogeneous mixing of binding agents with the soil is possible for soil stabilisation. It can remove many stumps efficiently and grinds large stumps with minimal repositioning.
Featuring a 115 hp (86 kW) Origin 6.2L engine with an 18 gallon (69 litre) fuel tank, the Vermeer cutting system (VCS) and SmartSweep™ control system, the SC1052 is the largest cutter in the Vermeer product line. With the ability to cut up to 31 inches (78.4 cm) high and 25 inches (63.5 cm) below the surface, and a straight-line cutting width of 72 inches (182.9 cm) and can remove a 6-foot (1.8-m) stump without repositioning.
Diesel emission regulations impacted the production of 100+ horsepower (75+ kW) stump cutters, including the popular Vermeer SC1152 stump cutter unit. To fill this void in the market, the Vermeer team designed a new economic gas engine model that will meet the performance levels tree care professionals expect. The SC1052 complements many of Vermeers customers' engine fleets, as they have started operating more petrol-powered chippers and trucks in recent years.
The Vermeer SC1052 is outfitted with the new VCS that solves many challenges associated with traditional cutting systems. Rather than using a bolt to secure teeth to the cutter wheel, the VCS has a mounting and retention structure that helps keep teeth from shifting in the pocket and absorbs the shearing force while operating. In addition, two-sided carbide V-profile cutter teeth help optimize the cutting performance of the stump cutter and can be flipped to the other side of the cutter wheel for an extended wear life.
The Vermeer team optimized the SC1052 to fit where many large stump cutters typically cannot go. The SC1052 is just 35 inches (88.9 cm) wide without its dual wheels. That means it can fit through a standard residential 36-inch (91.4-cm) gate. The SC1052 can also traverse difficult and uneven ground conditions thanks to its full-time, four-wheel drive system and differential lock.
Once in place, the cylinder and linkage bar design of the SC1052 helps to position the cutter wheel out and away from the machine as the boom drops. This gives operators a wide cutting range and minimizes the need to reposition. While cutting, the Vermeer SmartSweep control system monitors engine load to provide a smooth and consistent cutter wheel sweep rate and helps minimize wear and tear on the machine. Once cutting is done, a 34-inch (86.4-cm) hydraulic chip blade helps pile or spread chips for fast and efficient cleanup.
Vermeer designed the SC1052 to be efficient to service. It has access panels that can be removed with no tools required. Like other Vermeer stump cutters, the SC1052 is beltless, so users won’t have to think about replacing a belt. Designed with operator safety in mind, the SC1052 control handles have operator-sensing capabilities that will disengage the cutter wheel if a user steps away from the controls during operations.
Optional accessories include a remote for propel, boom and steering function control and telematics to help with fleet maintenance. Plus, the Vermeer Confidence Plus® asset protection program can be added for peace of mind. Source
