Logging-on’s second issue of April covers a wide variety of topics. The US Forest Services explains the factors that have the greatest effect on the productivity of “whole-tree” systems, with specific reference to the common machines used in the USA. We examine how FPInnovations, along with certain partners, are involved in the development of lightweight equipment used in cable yarding, allowing teams to be more productive. We also look at a useful book which provides detailed guidance on good business management practices for small to medium sized forest products firms. John Deere has announced a new agreement with engcon, who manufacture tilting rotators for excavators. Finally, we note that two big equipment manufacturers, Bell Equipment and Case, have now started global or continental marketing of their used equipment. This is currently a clear trend as manufactures try to take advantage of technology to better service the used machine market.
