Free access is provided to all journal articles until the end of October.
The latest issue of the journal includes an overview of the history of the journal, as well as insight into its future. The International Journal of Forest Engineering (IJFE) was first produced in July 1989 under the editorship of Jeremy Rickards. The initiative came from the faculty and staff in the Department of Forest Engineering at the University of New Brunswick in Canada. The early editions still went under the journal title of “Journal of Forest Engineering”. During this time period, many new logging machines and systems were being introduced, mostly in North America and Scandinavia, but there was no dedicated forest engineering journal for scientists to publish their information.
In the year 2000, “International” was added to the journal title. This was done to recognise the subscribers and contributors, who by now stretched to nearly every continent. In a special technical note, each of the five editor-in-chiefs during the 25 years have summarised the journey of the journal, which include more than 300 peer-reviewed articles. Ola Lindroos, the current editor, indicates that free access is provided to the journal until the end of October, and can be claimed at http://explore.tandfonline.com/content/est/tife .
