Product update - More comfort and good visibility with new Cat harvester cabs

Cat has made significant improvements to the cabs on their wheeled and tracked harvesters.

The improvements have been made to the Cat 550 wheeled harvester and the 501/501HD tracked forestry harvesters. The focus has been on improved ergonomics and operator comfort. The improved areas include better airflow, a more comfortable seat and better night visibility. This will allow the operator to maintain higher productivity for the full length of the shift, both during the day and at night time.

The air suspension seat is effective at absorbing shocks. Lumbar support and neck rests are now adjustable, as well as the armrests and joysticks that are adjustable in all directions. The seat and back support are heated for some much needed warmth in cold weather. For those operating in warmer climates, an optional extra is air venting in the seat.

The heating and cooling system in the cab can now be set for a specific temperature. No more air conditioner that freezes you or heater that makes you fall asleep! Airflow is channelled through louvered vents to all areas of the cab, including the windows to prevent them from misting up, or to defrost them. In warm weather, cool air circulates around the operator, while in cold weather, warm air extends to the floor to keep the operators feet warm.

Additional improvements include: Updated styling

  • Consoles with storage areas, open trays and cup holders
  • 12-volt power sources for additional electronic equipment
  • An updated IQAN-MDL control system (including the ability to select an automatic idle down mode to reduce rpm when the machine is not active)
  • New foot pedal design and angle
  • The third foot pedal (for the telescopic boom or fixed head side tilt) has been replaced by a slider switch on the joystick, allowing the operator to move the carrier while operating other functions.
  • Twist handles for door openings have been replaced by a handle and thumb control.
  • Three additional lights above the door, with good guarding.
