Valmet’s 840TX eight wheel drive forwarder is specifically designed for thinning operations. The focus has been placed on manoeuvrability and increased payload.
It achieves better manoeuvrability through a shorter overall length, being 62 cm (2’) shorter than its predecessor. It also has improved approach angles with the front axle to nose distance being shortened by 25 cm (10”). The rear frame (from the articulation joint to the rear) has been reduced by 30 cm (12”) which makes tighter turning possible. It also has lower ground pressure due to a reduced vehicle weight (14,800 kg or 16.2 tons) and a new frame design capable of using much wider bogie band tracks (up to 1 m/39” wide). The rear frame design improves payload, with the rear bogie providing more precise wheel tracking. Improvements have also been made to the loading crane for decreased loading times and improved reliability. It is powered by a new 129 kW (177 hp) four cylinder engine (4.9 l / 299 cu in).
