Improve your management skills for harvesting and roading operations
The courses are presented by CMO and Forme Consulting. They are aimed at enabling managers, supervisors, and planners to plan and supervise forest engineering activities such as the management of harvesting operations and roads. Forest supervisors, managers and planners increasingly need to have the skills to holistically manage their operations. Forest growers and contractors are more aware of costs now than ever before. Having a well-rounded skill set is important for managers, contractors, supervisors or planners responsible for optimising costs and productivity in forestry operations, while ensuring that operations are of acceptable quality and remain safe.
Forest roads provide the access for management of forest resources. Properly constructed and maintained roads are vital to ensure forest management activities such as timber transport, harvesting, fire protection, recreation and other activities are effectively managed, and unnecessary expenses are avoided.
Harvesting operations need to be managed holistically to consider safety, productivity, environmental, quality and social aspects. Harvesting unit rates are a significant factor in stumpage returns. Harvesting rates that are too high can negatively affect the return of investment to the forest grower. Harvesting rates that are too low can put a logging contractor out of business and in some cases, can compromise safety. Sustainable and fair rates provide long term viability for forest growers and harvesting contractors. Understanding cost and productivity factors that impact on unit rates requires insight into the economics and operation of the harvesting operation.
FORME Consulting Group and CMO have developed courses to provide road maintenance and operations management training that is practical and focused on the challenges facing modern harvesting and silviculture managers and supervisors. This is a 5-day course that participants can attend fully or alternatively attend just the specific components that add value. For further details on both components please access the Forme website. The New Zealand course is being presented from 7 to 11 May 2018 and the Australian courses from 14 to 18 May 2018. Source
