New C93 thinning head from Komatsu

The head is able to productively handle crooked trees due to an improved frame roller.

The frame roller has been centred and set higher up, allowing the head to more closely follow the trunk. The C93 also has an increased tilt angle (now 40 degrees) allowing a faster feed start. The paint tanks have been moved from the felling link to improve visibility and reduce possible damage to residual trees.

The head has a new saw unit, saw motor and bar mount. The saw unit has a better attachment to the chassis and saw bar, improving reliability. The new saw motor is also more reliable and productive due to faster cutting. The saw motor allows a consistent cutting speed (40 m/sec or 130 ft/sec) due to automated adjustments during the cutting process. To facilitate the consistent cutting speed, the hydraulics that guide and control the cutting process have been moved from the valve assembly to the saw motor.

The C93 has three movable delimbing knives and two fixed knives. The two forward knives have a design which enables them to delimb in different orders. This improves the delimbing of species with branches that are difficult to remove. Regarding length measurements, the signal from the measuring wheel to the pulse sensor is transferred by a magnetic field, resulting in fewer mechanical parts that can fail. Selected technical information is included in the table below.
