New biomass logging products - Chipping on narrow forest roads

Komptech has produced a truck-mounted chipper that processes biomass in confined areas.

All loggers are aware of the difficulties of manoeuvring trucks and operating processing equipment on narrow logging roads. Komptech has helped to overcome this challenge by producing a swivelling truck-mounted chipper that can process woody biomass on both sides of the road, all while the truck is parked in a stationary position. The chipper is mounted onto a turntable and can swivel through 260 degrees.

The chipper forms part of Kompteck’s Chippo series. The Chippo 5010 Cdt is used for this truck-mounted application. It is powered by the 540 hp (403 kW) engine of the MAN truck upon which it is mounted, and does not require an additional engine. Because the chipper does not require its own engine, it is more compact, allowing for less truck overhang.

An Epsilon wood loading crane is used to feed in biomass, and a 16 ft (4.9 m) Kompteck XL discharge chute, with improved geometry for material flow, is used to discharge material accurately into a hopper, bin or building.

The Chippo can be purchased with either a 440 rpm drum speed (for larger logs) or a 560 rpm drum speed (for smaller residues). However, an optional planetary gear does allow one to select between these two speeds. Source: www.komptech.com
