Barko to introduce a new tracked harvester

The lightweight 240 harvester is now being put to the test in the forest.
The market researchers at Barko Hydraulics have determined that there is a current void in the lightweight machine class of tracked harvesters and feller bunchers. The 240 is a 20,400 kg (45,000 lb) machine that has been purpose built for its logging application. One of the major features of the new machine will be its serviceability. The 240 has a design that lets the entire cab slide forward, providing unhindered access to the main hydraulic components. A gullwing service platform hydraulically lowers on the engine side of the machine, providing service personnel easy access along the entire length of the machine. An additional service feature is an onboard compressor and storage tank that permits the use of air powered tools with no additional servicing vehicles.

The 240 will be powered by a 162 kW (220 hp) Cummins engine. Like many modern logging machines, it has an auto-reversing engine fan, which provides better cooling and improved fuel efficiency. It boasts good manoeuvrability due to its size, and can also be transported easily from one site to the next due its narrow width of less than 3.1 m (10 ft). It comes with a factory installed fire suppression system and high output LED working lights.

The 240 will be debuted at the 2013 Great Lakes Logging Congress in September, and will be for sale from later in the year. It can be fitted with a wide variety of fixed, dangle and feller/buncher cutting heads. Source: http://www.barko.com/news/
