Logging-on’s second issue of September focusses on feller bunchers, bull dozers and cable yarders. Tigercat have released their new 845 E Series levelling and non-levelling feller bunchers, which contain a number of new features and updates. John Deere have announced their new powerful FS50 and FR50 felling heads laden with improvements. Moving to cable yarding, researchers have established a way to determine the safety of the operation when using trees as anchors during cable yarding operations. This has been enabled through the lowering costs of sensors which can be used to measure stress. Then we look at bull dozers, which from the outside seem to be machines of brute power and low technology. However, these machines have come some way with the introduction of technology, and with the aid of Case, we examine some of this new technology, and examine a new dozing control system from Komatsu, that serves as a reminder of the benefits of using modern machines.
