In this first issue of June, Logging-on brings a new harvester head from Ponsse that is specialised in the debarking of eucalypt trees. The new Ponsse H7 HD Euca debarking harvester head joins the previously released H8 HD Euca. Staying with harvesters, Logset have significantly improved the field of view from their harvester cabins to improve operator productivity. Then we place the attention on timber transport. FPInnovations is partnering with Robotic Research to develop platooning technologies for timber trucks using forestry roads. This will allow the front truck in the platoon to be autonomously followed by other trucks. We also discover that classroom-based training is effective in improving log truck driver performance, and not all training needs to be practical and field-based. Finally, we examine the new 22-series Z-cranes from Kesla that are mounted on logging trucks.
