In this second edition of August, Logging-on focusses on steep slope harvesting. We examine three different steep slope logging guides that provide us with information on the risks and with operational information. The first is from Washington State and examines best management and operating practices. The second is from British Columbia and provides resources for logging steep areas. The final document is from New Zealand and has a specific focus on cable assist systems used on steep slopes. We also bring the new series of tracked feller bunchers from Komatsu Forest. Finally, we look at John Deere’s new fully integrated, mastless grade control system for motor graders.
