Logging-on’s first issue of August brings technology innovations, new products and favourable news regarding logging machine markets. Logset have developed a new smooth ride cabin suspension system for forwarders which will be presented and demonstrated in a few days’ time at FinnMETKO. Scania shows how technology can improve truck fuel consumption by using kinetic energy to “pulse” and “glide” the truck over hilly terrain. It is pleasing to see both Ponsse and John Deere reporting strong demand for logging machines. Interestingly, the Ponsse demand is being driven from North and Central Europe and Russia, while with John Deere the demand is being driven from North America. Notably, both manufacturers noted increased global demand for logging machines and expect sales figures to be notably higher in 2018. We conclude with new chipper related products. Komptech have released a new multi-purpose chipper-shredder and Morbark have implemented a new control system for selected chipper models.
