Which forestry tyres for which application: part 1

We examine the Nokian range of tyres to see what tyre should be used for specific conditions.

Nokian produces forestry tyres for Cut-to-Length (CTL) machines, skidders and tractor-based forestry machines. In this issue we look at the CTL machine tyres. CTL machines (wheeled harvesters and forwarders) need to be as stable as possible when operating and the tyres need to assist with this. The tyres produced for CTL machines are profiled below.

  • Nokian Forest Rider – For operator comfort and good traction. This is a radial tyre with a large contact patch for good traction. The radial construction increases driver comfort and reduces tyre vibrations. The steel belt improves puncture protection and a strong side wall provides stability. The lower rolling resistance reduces fuel consumption.
  • Nokian Forest King F – A sturdy and stable tyre for demanding conditions. The profile provides a good ground contact patch. The tread and sidewalls are very durable reducing punctures and resulting in longer tyre life. Suitable for track or chain fitment. It also has steel protection against punctures.
  • Nokian Forest King TRS L-2 – For excellent traction. The lug angle and sharp tyre shoulders provide good lateral grip. It has a wide and high lug pattern for good mobility and operator comfort. Mainly used without tracks. It also has steel protection against punctures.
  • Nokian Forest King ELS L-2 – A sturdy and stable low profile tyre. The tread and sidewalls are durable ,reducing punctures and resulting in longer tyre life. It has steel fortification for protection against punctures.
  • Nokian Nordman Forest – A lower cost tyre with good traction. The bar angle and sharp shoulder improve lateral grip, and the wide and high bars allow good movement.
