What teeth should I be using on my material grinder?

The type of material being processed will determine what tool is used. Peterson gives us an overview.

Peterson has produced a grinder tooling application guide. The intention is for the user of a grinder to be able to select the grinding tool that best suits their application. The guide is based on Peterson products, but can be used for any brand of grinder. The grinding teeth evaluated include a standard 6-pass, a heavy duty 8-pass, a sharp edge, a tiger tooth, a bear claw and a high abrasion tooth. These different teeth are evaluated against their potential to process regrind (2nd pass material), greenwaste (plants, leaves etc), forestry residue (branches, tree tops), whole logs (logs, stumps, wood pieces), scrapwood (pallets etc), construction material (building demolition material), municipal solid waste (garbage, landfill) and industrial recycling (plastics and wood composites).

Each grinding tool is given a ranking according to its ability to grind the different type of biomass. These are good choice, better choice, best choice and not recommended. There is also consideration given as to whether the tool has carbide overlay, carbide inserts or is cast carbide. The final information provided gives the range of Peterson grinders and which tools can be used with each machine. Source: www.petersoncorp.com
