University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) secures Aus $ 500,000 alliance for operations research

The alliance consists of 18 forestry stakeholders from across Australia.

The funds have been provided to investigate new methods of improving the forest industries economic and environmental sustainability. The Alliance Director is USC Professor of Forestry Operations, Mark Brown. He has more than 15 years of experience in cooperative applied research in Australia and Canada and previously worked with the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Forestry (Australia).

The year-long alliance began in July and will operate until 30 June 2013. It aims to build on the momentum achieved during previous collaborative research, and shows confidence in the ability of researchers to produce relevant, value adding research. No government funding has been forthcoming for this period, showing the forest industries commitment to taking operations research forward. The research will have a strong focus on economic outcomes, as well as focussing on bio-energy supply chains.
