The new EC220E excavator from Volvo boasts impressive improvements over the previous D series model

These include reduced emissions and fuel consumption, as well as increased power and productivity.

Volvo’s latest 22-ton crawler excavator, the EC220E, uses a Tier 4 Final/Stage IV Volvo D6 engine that meets emissions legislation across North America and European markets. The hydraulics system and ECO mode produce the exact amount of power needed to complete the task it is performing, while the auto engine shutdown feature reduces fuel consumption and emissions by automatically switching off after the excavator has been inactive for a pre-set amount of time. The EC220E has increased pump input power, resulting in a more responsive operation for greater productivity and reduced cycle times, and with the boom float function, the pump power normally used for boom lowering can be saved or used for other functions, further reducing cycle times.

Operator ergonomics has received much focus. The number of switches has been reduced and the climate control integrated into the keypad for easy adjustment. Functions such as the windshield wipers, cameras, auto-mute or power max function can all be assigned a short-cut button on the joystick. The EC220E has an optional side view camera in addition to the rear view camera to cover the visual blind spot, with both views displayed on the colour monitor. Key specifications are included below.
