Road maintenance - FAE expands its road maintenance and refurbishing range

The MTH (Multi Task Heavy Duty) uses technology to improve productivity, yet still achieves flexibility for different uses.

The expanded range makes provision for road stabilisation, rock crushing for in-situ gravel production, and existing road recycling for complete work, as well as small patches. Flexibility is achieved due to the equipment being mounted behind any standard 4WD tractor. This also assists in keeping capital costs lower. The range extends from 80 to 390 hp (60 to 291 kW), from 1.0 to 2.5 m (3.3 to 8.2 ft) operating width, and from 50 to 500 mm (2 to 20 in) working depth.

The rotors have bullet type hammers which are easily replaced due to the attachment method. The transmission is completely gear driven to transfer the necessary torque to the surface. Direct transmission was chosen over hydraulic options to enable a more efficient use of the hp/kW and longer component life. The equipment range has a variable displacement chamber (VDC) and a 970 mm (38 in) diameter rotor.

Some models can be equipped with water spraying systems consisting of a centrifugal water pump, consisting of water nozzles which spray directly at the drum for optimal mixing with the material, and a flow metre with an electrically operated solenoid valve and metering system in the tractor cabin. For this application, a water truck needs to operate in front of the tractor. Source: http://www.faeusa.com/content.asp?L=3&IdMen=433
