FPInnovations research results – Should an engine be idled for some time in cold temperatures to bring it to optimal temperatures? FPInnovations researcher, Marius-Dorin Surcel, has produced research results (Advantage, Vol.12, no.8) which say no. It is better to idle for a short period and then operate at moderate loads until optimal temperatures are reached. Furthermore, the engine also retains enough heat for easy starting even after being turned off a few hours, and it is therefore not necessary to idle the engine to allow easy restarting.
