New Products - Valmet 340 thinning harvester head

The new head will fill the gap between the 330 and 350.1 harvesting heads.

The 340 is designed to work in stands with a DBH of between 10 and 25 cm (4-10 in). Its compact design and low weight (from 760 kg/1,675 lb) enables it to operate in dense forest thinning. Multi-tree accumulation is an optional extra, which enables more than one tree to be accumulated and handled simultaneously, which is especially important in very small trees. Even though it is designed for thinning, it can be used in clearfell stands.

The hydraulic hoses are all protected from damage through hoses being minimised by the use of a compact hydraulic valve bank. Moving connectors for the hose feeds will reduce the amount of oil leaks. Also, the bar feed is placed inside a fully integrated unit that is compact and robust.

The feed rollers have mounts that automatically angle the rollers to suite the size of tree being harvested. They also have proportional pressure which helps with a gentle feed. Delimbing knives have long cutting edges that follow the tree shape closely. The head is able to colour mark logs and carry out stump treatments. To help with reliability, the paint tanks are found inside the tilt link. Further specifications are found in the table below. Source: www.komatsuforest.com
