Tigercat recently released their new 630D grapple skidder. True to their tradition of listening closely to what their customers say, it contains some very well thought out improvements.
The 630D replaces the previous popular 630C model. Tigercat has managed to get improved performance and fuel consumption out of a smaller engine due to improvements in its hydrostatic drive train (8.3 litre in the 630C versus 6.7 litre in the 630D).
The 630D is also equipped with Tigercat’s Turnaround seat which enables the operator to operate from two positions, one for moving forward and one for reversing. The seat swivels easily and locks in either the forward or reverse position. Skidder operators can become fatigued due to the machine bouncing over the terrain and having to always twist while reversing. The Turnaround seat which has an armrest mounted joystick instead of a steering wheel as well as drive wheels at the front and rear of the cab should result in improved operator ergonomics and therefore higher daily productivity.
Tigercat also state that the arch has been designed so that the operator has improved visibility. Other improvements to the arch and the IQAN control system have also been made. The variable and reversible Flexxaire engine mounted fan has blades whereby the fan pitch is automatically matched to cooling requirements. This contributes to improved energy efficiency.
