Stihls new generation MS 261 chainsaw includes many new technologies to improve productivity and safety.

The MS 261 has a diecast magnesium engine housing and stainless steel muffler to obtain optimum power-to-weight ratio and extended service life. Increased performance has been made possible by the new 2-MIX engine. Stihl claims increased cutting performance and lugging power, as well as up to 20% fuel consumption reduction compared to non 2-MIX two-stroke engines. With this engine, high torque can be obtained over a wider speed range. Exhaust emissions have been reduced by up to 50%. The 2-MIX engine already complies with 2012 EU II exhaust emission limits for power tools.
One of the key features is a long-life air filtering system, which extends the life of the filter up to five times longer than the MS 260. The filter is made from water and oil-repellent polyethylene filter material, with up to 70% finer pores than fleece and polyamide filters, and is easy to clean. A pre-cleaner removes coarse dirt particles before the air reaches the filter. The filter cartridge has a quick release lock that allows the filter to be assembled and disassembled very quickly.
Other improvements include smoother and easier start-ups, quicker refuelling, easy maintenance access, captive nuts on the chain sprocket cover, simple chainsaw tensioning and less vibration. The key specifications can be found in the table below.
