New products - An infield biomass cover with a difference

Improve the drying rate and energy content of your logging residue.

To improve the energy content of logging residue, the residue needs to be as dry as possible. After lying on the ground after harvesting, it can be collected and stored in piles for many months. If left unprotected from rain, the biomass can become wet, and retain its moisture. Walki has developed a paper-based, waterproof cover that can be chipped and burned together with the residue.

The cover is a four metre-wide laminate, produced mainly from renewable fibrous materials. It covers the top of the residue pile, but leaves the sides open allowing moisture to evaporate. The cover also helps prevent the residue from freezing, making it difficult to handle. A very thin plastic layer in the cover makes it waterproof and strong. The characteristics of the plastic allow it to be chipped along with the residue and used as fuel.

The cover is the widest of its kind on the market. A six metre-wide cover is also being developed to cover even larger residue piles and other wood-based biofuels. The solid content of the logging residue can be increased by as much as 15% by using the cover. The cover is easy to spread, and to do this, the same machine is used that collected the residue from forest. Source: www.walki.com
