New four-wheel drive backhoe loader from Cat

The 405F boasts more horsepower, electronic control, improved serviceability and more operator comfort.

The Cat 405F is powered by the C4.4 ACERT engine and meets Tier 4 Interim and Stage IIIB emission standards. It retains the 450E’s hydraulic thumb, pin-puller-type coupler, and a range of compatible work tools, which includes buckets with integral forks, hammers and plate compactors.

It has 5% more power than the 450E, which allows digging in more stubborn areas, faster road speeds and better gradient climbing. An automatic engine speed control feature reduces engine speed if hydraulic functions are idle. This improves fuel efficiency and reduces sound levels. The 450F has a closed-centre, load-sensing hydraulic system that uses an efficient variable-flow main pump. It is now electronically controlled for more precise control of the backhoe and loader functions. The loader is self-levelling.

Ease of maintenance is improved with a composite fuel tank that reduces condensation and rust and a new electric fuel-priming pump that makes routine servicing easier. The operator benefits from an air-suspension seat, ergonomically designed joystick controls, a redesigned gauge cluster, and an auto-shift transmission. Key specifications are included in the table below.
