New four flail debarker and disc chipper from Peterson

The 6830 chain flail debarker and 7900EL disc chipper are capable of producing high quality chips from difficult species, such as some of the eucalypts.

The 6830 is a dedicated chain flail delimber debarker, designed for long-stem chipping operations where low bark or ash contents must be achieved. It is able to process multiple stems or trees up to 76 mm (30 in) in diameter. The power comes from a Caterpillar C18 engine able to produce 765 hp (570 kW) of power. It is available in a three of four flail drum configuration. The two lower flail drums are fixed, while the upper drums float to match tree diameter. The 10-link flail chain can be replaced through convenient access doors. Each drum contains six flail rods and 90 10-link chains (16 mm or 5/8 in. chains). Flail speed can range from 100 to 550 rpm. Like most modern flails, the operator sits in a comfortable cab and operates the machine through electronic joystick controls. The debarker can be fitted with either the Peterson 170 or 220 log loader. Feeding is facilitated by two floating feed heads and five fixed lower feed rollers, while an additional two rollers assist the stems to exit the debarker. The large bark pusher can be configured to remove bark on either side of the machine.

The 7900EL disc chipper was designed for large stems and high volume operations. It is powered by a Caterpillar C32 engine rated at 839 kW (1,125 hp). The 7900EL can produce chips from 2 to 32 mm (0.25 to 1.25 in), and can process stems or bundles of stems up to 76 cm (30 in), which matches the 6830 debarker. The disc blade is 2.18 m (86 in) in diameter, 121 mm (4.75 in) thick, and is equipped with 5 knives that have replaceable wear liners. The 7900EL can be fitted with either babbited or key knife systems. The chipper is remotely operated, and can be operated by the flail debarker operator when operating with the 6830 debarker.
