New conference aims to guide new logging machine technologies

FPInnovations is hosting the first “Forest Machine Technology Conference” in 2015.

The first conference is themed “A vision for the future”, and will be held from 21 to 23 April 2015 in Montreal, Canada. It is being presented in collaboration with Unmanned Systems Canada, FPAC, Laval University, L’Ecole de Technologie Superieure, Skogforsk and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The conference will focus on advanced technologies for forest machines of the future.

One of the driving reasons for having a conference such as this is the growing shortage of skilled machine operators, and will include aspects such as the integration of technologies such as robotics and automation. The conference will be structured to have keynote speakers, invited technical presentations, information from suppliers and working groups. Some of the key goals of the conference are as follows:

  • Defining the needs, gaps and challenges around advanced technologies in forestry.
  • Identify stand-out technologies and ideas, as well as partners and suppliers.
  • Show technologies from other fields.
  • Create networking opportunities for new partnerships and research.
The conference will appeal to a wide audience, including forestry managers, equipment manufacturers, technology suppliers, universities and research institutions. Source:  http://fmtc.fpinnovations.ca/
