New biomass products - New energy wood head from Naarva

The new Naarva EF28 is designed for energy wood harvesting, first thinning and integrated harvesting.

The Naarva EF28 is the first head designed as cooperation between Pentin Paja Oy and Outokummun Metalli Oy. The head will be used in small trees where energy wood or small wood harvesting is carried out. The ability to handle multiple trees was a key design criterion. This has been achieved by the feed rollers opening sideways to make it easier to collect the next stem. Slipping is not possible during feeding, due to the hydraulic motors being connected in series. Also, the high-capacity accumulation grippers, reliable shear, and the loader grapple-type delimbing knives allow quick and easy accumulation. The head also has very good stability in the upright position which helps productive multi-tree handling.

A new 28 cm (11”) shear (guillotine) is a key feature of the new head. Grippers press the tree against the blade, and cut it in one smooth movement. Full cutting power is maintained throughout the entire movement. This also applies when cutting tree bundles. The head is cost-effective to operate, as it only requires about half of the power needed by a harvester head with a chainsaw. The Naarva can be fitted to harvesters, excavators (14 to 20 t) and combi machines. Some of the key specifications are included below.
