The guide was compiled to assist landowners, forest managers and forestry practitioners manage public safety on harvesting sites. It sets out the different roles and responsibilities for managing public safety, and provides advice for suitable control measures and good practice. The guide defines three different work areas; being the proximity area (the area surrounding the worksite), the worksite (the area where harvesting is being carried out), and haulage routes (the specified routes into and out of the worksite).
Various control measures are discussed. These include providing information, erecting signage and using barriers. Examples of each of these are provided. As a last measure, banksmen (control personnel at entry points) may be required to prevent people from entering. Managing the control measures is also included, with example scenarios helping to explain how the control measures should be implemented. The responsibilities of the various stakeholders are all explained. Source: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/PDF/FCPN019.pdf/$FILE/FCPN019.pdf
