Logging and lasers - Using lasers on chainsaws to improve tree felling and bucking?

Stihl has introduced a laser system for accurate cutting, which is mounted on the handlebar of the chainsaw.

The Stihl Laser 2-in-1 laser system is used as a felling and bucking aid. It is mounted on the handlebar of the chainsaw. Plotting of the tree felling direction has been simplified, as a laser beam is projected on the ground which enables the direction of fall to be easily determined. The laser system has a wide adjustment range, allowing the laser line to be set according to the work situation.

The Laser 2-in-1 system can also assist bucking operations, allowing the correct size log to be cut without using a tape measure. Lengths of between 25 and 100 cm (10 and 39 in) can be set. The laser system is powered by standard batteries supplied with the unit. It is easy to switch on and off with a button that contains an LED indicator.

The system has been designed as a tool for forestry professionals and tree fellers, but will also assist private users who want to cut firewood of the correct length for their fireplaces. It is compact and easy to use, and can be fitted or removed via an adaptor, without tools being required. The system can be removed with or without the adaptor. A bag is supplied that can be attached securely to the users belt. Source: www.stihl.co.za
