Komatsu Forest produces a new large harvester head

The Komatsu C283 is the largest in Komatsu's head line-up.

Komatsu Forest describes the C283 as being “a sturdy head designed for heavy trees”. It has a maximum opening of 800 mm (31.5 in). It is designed for final felling operations, as well as for selection cutting and processing pre felled trees. The head is intended primarily for the American and Australian markets and is designed for mounting on a forestry excavator of 27 tonnes or bigger. The head uses a three-wheel feed system, allowing the stem to be both fed and lifted by the feed rollers. The frame of the head is fitted with an additional feed roller to reduce friction and improve feed force and feed speed. Optional equipment is a top saw. In standard configuration, the head uses three delimbing knives. Two are moving and one is fixed. Customers can choose to fit two additional delimbing knives, mounted in the rear section of the head, one of which is hydraulically controlled while the other is fixed to the chassis. To reduce leakage from hydraulic couplings, the Komatsu C283 is equipped with ORFS couplings. The head also includes features to improve maintenance. These include a mount for the hose guard in the rotator, which is designed to make hose replacement as quick and easy as possible. The head is controlled by the MaxiXplorer control system.
