Komatsu Forest presents their new 845 forwarder

This small versatile forwarder boasts a new chassis, engine, crane and bunk.

Komatsu attracted the crowds at Elmia with a synchronised display of various harvesting machines, accompanied by music and the odd explosion! Komatsu describes the forwarder as “nimble, compact, and gentle yet productive”. The forwarder has a 4-cylinder 4.9 litre engine and meets Stage IV and Tier 4 final requirements.

The 845 has a new split frame design with a self-bearing axle and a new frame-axle interface. The frame underside is designed for good obstacle clearance, and with the 26.5 inch wheels, good ground clearance is obtained while achieving reduced ground pressures. A new hydrostatic transmission adapts to load changes, and considers aspects such as slope, obstacles and crane loads. The new transmission allows the crane to operate without drops in hydraulic capacity.

The crane has a reach of 10 m (33 ft) with a combi outer boom with a ProTec link, and internal hose routing and hydraulics for protection when working in dense stands. As with many modern logging machine developments, increased hydraulic pressures allows good crane speed and the cab shows good ergonomic features, especially regarding visibility, noise reduction and seating.

A very interesting new feature is the flexible gate, called FlexGate. The gate moves up and down if the crane strikes it, providing better visibility and protection. The bunk loading space width and height can be adjusted. The 845 will be available towards the end of 2013. Source: www.komatsuforest.com
