Trying to make sense of many machine and model names in logging is difficult. Komatsu Forest have standardised the way they name their harvester heads as follows (E.g. S132E):
- The first letter describes the design principle of the head. A “C” means that the tree is held by the feed rollers, which provides good stem grip, good traction and high measurement accuracy. An “S” means that the tree is held by the knives, allowing crooked trees to be handled well. A “V” is a combination of “C” and “S”, where the tree is held by the feed rollers and delimbing knives together.
- The first letter is followed by three digits. The first and second digits show the heads standard size. This makes it easier to quickly compare the heads size to the rest of the Komatsu head line-up. The last digit specifies the number of feed rollers, which can be two, three or four in number.
- The three digits are followed by a last letter. This letter specifies any specific functionality. “E” signifies debarking, while “P” signifies processing.
