John Deere introduces their first 8-wheeled harvester

The harvester is designed for logging on steep slopes and soft underfoot conditions.

John Deere’s popular 1270E harvester is now available in an 8-wheeled version. This option offers more power, higher ground clearance and bogie axles with customised balancing gear units for excellent climbing ability and traction. Stability has also been improved and the harvester has a large approach angle for difficult terrain.

John Deere’s smaller 1070E and 1170E harvesters are now equipped with Interim Tier 4 (IT4) engines. These harvesters now have bigger work pumps and more power and torque compared to the Tier 3 harvesters. Both harvesters are powered by John Deere 6068 PowerTech Plus series turbo-charged 6-cylinder 6.8 litre engines. The 1170E is equipped with a 175 cm3 pump and the 1070E with a 160 cm3 pump for increased oil flow to provide sufficient power to the new Processing Power Control feature (to be covered in a future edition of Logging-on). The harvester heads available for the above machines can be optionally fitted with multi-tree handling devices. John Deere will be issuing a press release in the near future.
