Hot on the heels of the larger framed machines recently introduced, the 2-series swing machines also include a host of new features and improvements.
Logging-on covered the 3154/3156G and 3754/3756G swing machines in the September edition (http://www.loggingon.net/index.php?cid=344). The new G-Series machines are specialised for jobs such as loading and processing large timber. Similarly to the larger framed machines, the 2156G and 2656G Log Loaders are distinguished by the 56 model number, while the Forestry Excavators retain the 54 model number. All four models use PowerTech Plus 6.8L engines. On the 2154G and 2156G models, the new engine reduces fuel usage by 5 to 8 percent.
One of the main focus areas has been on improved operator comfort. The redesigned operator cab is larger and quieter than the previous models. The Forestry Excavator models feature a standard 25 percent larger side-entry cab, while the Log Loaders/Processors have a standard elevated rear entry cab, which allows for safe and easy entry and exit. A cab-forward option on the 2156G and 2656 Log Loader/Processor models provides good visibility, particularly when swinging toward the boom side of the cab. LED lighting is an option on all models.
The 2154G and 2156G models have been improved with larger rollers, while the 2654G and 2656G are available with an optional longer track, which improves machine stability, operator comfort, machine lift capacity and lower roller life. Improvements to the boom, arm, mainframe and undercarriage increase the life of the structures.
The G-Series models have a 35 percent reduction in electrical components, which will reduce electrical-related downtime. The machines are equipped with a larger cooling system with hydraulically reversing fans to increase airflow and lower operating temperature. Ground level service access, easily accessible filters and test ports, and LED service lights improve routine maintenance.
