Husqvarna Group celebrates 325 years

Husqvarna’s innovative history includes all from weapons to state of the art chainsaws.

Husqvarna is a Swedish company established in 1689. During the late 1600’s, there were wars taking place across Europe. This stimulated the demand for weapons. Because hydropower was required for production, a drilling works was established near the waterfalls in Huskvarna (at that time spelt Husqvarna) in Southern Sweden. As the need for weapons reduced, the company saw the opportunity to use their engineering skill to produce products such as sewing machines, hunting weapons, wood stoves, mincing machines, bicycles, motorcycles and gas stoves. Since the 1960’s, the company has focussed on outdoor power products for forestry, gardens, parks and the construction industry.

In 1959, as the demand for bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles declined, the forestry industry became increasingly important. Their first chainsaw, the Husqvarna 90, was produced. It used motorcycle muffler technology to reduce noise levels to lower than their competitors. The chainsaw formed the basis for the development of Husqvarna’s power tools for the construction industry. Today, Husqvarna is recognised as one of world’s top chainsaw suppliers, producing robust and reliable machines. Source: www.husqvarnagroup.com
