Fitting bandtracks to harvesting machinery

Practical guidelines for the safe fitting of bandtracks.

This Forestry Commission document titled “Safe Fitting of Bandtracks to Harvesting Machinery”, describes a safe procedure to fit bandtracks properly. Safe and secure fitting also ensures that the bandtracks are properly tensioned which will protect the tyre and allow longer life of the bandtrack.

The document starts with a description of what a bandtrack is and gives a short overview of matching bandtracks to tyres, tyre pressures, bandtrack tension and plate removal. The method for fitting the bandtrack is then described in detail. Pictures and diagrams make it clear as to what is being explained. The method is described in six steps. A few key safety aspects that should be considered are also described. The document, originally compiled by Steven Morgan (2003) can be downloaded for free at http://www.forestry.gov.uk/
