Featured Conference - Precision Forestry Symposium, South Africa

The Precision Forestry Symposium is taking place from one to three March in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It has an excellent line of more than 40 presenters from Africa, North America, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia and Australasia.

The symposium is being organised by Stellenbosch University and TUM. It has a strong Forest Engineering flavour, including sessions on wood quality assessments, harvesting operation simulations, equipment monitoring and management, and supply chain optimisation. Focussed presentations on methods for estimating biomass potential and road planning are just two of the many other interesting topics. The other themes being addressed at the symposium are landscape assessment and planning, remote sensing and mensuration, and growth simulation at single tree and stand level. A field visit and poster session is also included.

The keynote address is by Professor Glen Murphy, with a very good line-up of presenters following. If you are in Africa or specifically South Africa, it would really be worth your while to make the effort to attend. There is not much time left to register, so if you are interested, access the web address at the end of the article to find out more information, the programme and to register.
