ew biomass handling products - New chipping drum from Morbark

The Advantage 3 chipper drum improves chip quality in high volume fuel wood production.

The most significant changes have been made to the pocket, knife, and knife holding assembly. These are the parts where the chips are formed and cut, and where most wear related maintenance costs are incurred. The new design includes increased clamping forces and more durable knives. The knives can operate for longer between sharpening events, and can also be sharpened numerous times without compromising chip quality. The new design enables higher production from the chipper, yet with improved chip quality. When producing fuel chips, chip quality is becoming increasingly important for the client. Some of the main advantages of the Advantage 3 are as follows:

  • Knives have 1 inch (2.5 cm) more depth – allows more sharpening events before replacing.
  • Knives are ¾ inch (1.9 cm) thicker – more tolerant to wear and nicks.
  • Wider drum with reduced gap between drum and housing – lower quantity of small branches passing through unprocessed, improving chip quality.
  • Babbit style counter knife – breaks chips off, protects the holders, prevents wood packing, and is adjustable for consistent chip length.

A table with additional advantages can be viewed on the Morbark website. The chipper drum carries a three year warranty, and is available on all new Morbark drum chippers. It can also be ordered as a retrofit to any existing drum chipper.
