Doppstadt produces a new mobile precision chipper

Going to where the work is – the DH 812 LD can access narrow and windy forest roads.

The DH 812 LD is a chipper with compact equipment mounted onto a Mercedes Arocs 3648 truck with a crane. The chipper processes logs, treetops, slabs and shrubs producing wood chips between 30 and 100 mm (1.2 and 3.9 in). Logs of up to 900 mm (35 in) diameter can be processed. The infeed of the chipping unit is 1200 mm (47 in) large and 800 mm (31.5 in) high. Because the rotor has more than 3 tons of gyrating mass, the chipping unit can even process very thick wood slabs. An aggressive feed-in drum and apron feeder allows treetops to be productively processed.

The chipper can reach deep into the forest due to the 6x6-all wheel drive tractive system, a 3900 mm (154 in) wheel base and the PowerShift 3 automatic switching equipment, which efficiently transfers slight pressure from the pedal to the machine. It has 350 kW (476 hp) of engine power which allows acceptable speeds even going up steep slopes. A reinforced frame construction makes the entire vehicle extremely robust. When on site, the work can begin immediately. The chipping unit, the crane and the most important components are located in a compact and safe place on the chassis. A Palfinger M 70 wood loading crane places material at the chipper infeed where it is chipped and discharged by means of the discharge unit. The drive-train uses turbo couplings and vibration dampers between the chipping unit and reinforced power take-off to protect the engine and the gearbox. The truck is also protected by a belt coupling which ensures the power is transmitted effectively from the engine to the chipping rotor.

An enclosed rotor with 6 chipping knives produces constantly high-quality wood chips. The solid chipping rotor with robust segment design turns continuously at 500 rpm. The wood chip size can be adjusted to the requirements by means of the continuously adjustable feeding speed, the variable knife displacement from 25 to 45 mm (1 to 1.8 in) and a choice of suitable screening baskets. The screening basket can be changed without tools. The chipper is controlled from the driver's cabin where all the control units are located. The cabin has been redesigned by Doppstadt with regard to functional and ergonomic aspects. The driver has the working process in sight through the windscreen, which is bent backwards, and a camera in the discharge area. A Grammer seat ensures the operators comfort and additional LEDs provide good light for night work.
