An overview of Wyssen cable yarding equipment and systems

Wyssen manufactures a wide range of cable yarding systems and accessories for difficult terrain harvesting.

Switzerland’s Wyssen Seilbahnen AG has produced material ropes since 1926. Wyssen introduced their Skyline Crane in 1939, and this created a new way to cost-effectively log difficult terrain. Today they are market leaders in the production of cable yarding equipment. They are well known for producing high quality equipment. Wyssen’s main customers are still logging companies, but they also supply equipment to cableway companies, ski resorts and owners of mountain cabins. Their product line-up includes the following:

  • Sled yarders: They are used as traction or braking machines for moving cables to transport the skyline carriage and its load.
  • Carriages: Various skyline carriages, including the compact HY-2; and the HY-4 and HY-7 carriages for long-distance cableways. Carriages can be remote controlled by radio or work automatically by clamping onto the skyline when the carriage stops.
  • Motorised skyline carriages: The carriage is equipped with an engine to move the hoisting cable.
  • Single-line cableways: These are self-driven units for small payloads of between 200 and 500 kg (440 and 1,100 lb).
  • Cableway accessories: These include accessories for the installation, maintenance and operation of cableways, such as cable tensioning equipment, intermediate supports, cable support saddles for intermediate supports, cable clamps, safety belts for climbing towers and pulley-blocks.
