Tips for safe feller buncher operation

Feller bunchers, like many other logging machines, are safe machines if maintained and operated correctly.

The Forest Resources Association provides many resources for logging safety. One of these is a short brochure on the safe operation of feller bunchers. The brochure covers the following safety aspects:
  • General safety: Personal protective equipment (PPE), the operator manual, training and first aid.
  • Operator safety tips: The safety aspects that must be checked during a machine walk-around, and maintenance aspects.
  • Machine mounting: How to safely climb onto the machine.
  • Pre-start inside the cab
  • Feller buncher operator guidelines: Eight aspects to operate a feller buncher safely.
  • Operational safety tips: Such as stumping the sawhead before climbing out of the cab.
  • Visitors: Visitor access and safe distances.
The brochure is titled “Feller buncher safety operation”. This brochure and many others can be accessed at the www.loggingsafety.com  website.
