The levelling and non-levelling machines feature new Tigercat FPT Tier 4 engines.
The S855D and LS855D shovel loggers are now available in the North American markets. The new machines are powered by a 210 kW (282 hp) Tigercat FPT engines. The Tigercat FPT engines are fully supported by Tigercat and the Tigercat dealer network. Tigercat will continue to offer the C-series shovel loggers in South America, Australia and New Zealand.
The S855D series shovel loggers have proven to be a safe and productive solution for logging on steep slopes and sensitive sites. The LS855D is a powerful levelling carrier well suited to felling, pre-bunching and shovel logging on steep terrain. Common attachments for the LS855D are a feller director boom and the Tigercat 5195 directional felling head for felling and shovel logging. However, the carrier can also be equipped with a live heel boom system and grapple for pure shovel logging. With a high flotation undercarriage, the machine is commonly used and popular for southern US style log mat-based lowland logging applications.
Using the patented Tigercat ER boom and energy recovery swing system, the shovel loggers can cost effectively forward wood to roadside in steep or wet soil conditions up to distances of 80 to 100 m (260 to 330 ft). It can also extract trees from particularly challenging areas to a point more accessible to other ground based extraction machines, or fell and bunch for a yarding system. No additional add-on packages are required such as with excavator based shovel yarders, as the S855D and LS855D are purpose-built for heavy duty forestry applications and has a hydraulic system optimized for shovel logging and felling with a directional felling head.
The patented LS855D levelling system uses two extra large hydraulic cylinders and heavy steel sections. Tigercat indicates that the unique geometry of the levelling system improves balance, poise and stability on slopes. Additionally, a ramped undercarriage allows the machines to easily drive up over rocks and stumps. Source: http://www.tigercat.com/tigercat-releases-d-series-shovel-loggers/
