The 623C 4x4 is able to process more than one tree at a time if required.
Another new product released at Demo International 2016 was the HTH 623C 4x4 harvesting head. The new head requires a tracked carrier of at least 25 metric tonnes. The optimal tree size for single tree processing is 5 to 66 cm (2 to 26 in), while the optimal tree size for multi-stemming is 5 to 28 cm (2 to 11 in). The head weighs 3,530 kg (7,782 lb). The delimbing knives are designed for picking up stems and delimbing. Their maximum delimbing opening is 70 cm (28 in). The main saw has an 83 cm (32 in) maximum cutting diameter, while the topping saw as a maximum cutting diameter of 57 cm (22.5 in). Waratah described the key features of the new head as follows:
- It uses a four-wheel drive feed system with 1040/630 cc motors that have synchro-drive traction control.
- It makes use of Waratah’s shuffling feature for independent stem driving, which eliminates trim waste when processing multiple trees.
- New technology is used to measure diameters to improve accuracy and reliability. This eliminates external diameter sensors and linkages.
- The head has 360 degree continuous rotation for better mobility and improved hose routing.
- Bolt-on datum plates and drive arm stoppers improve serviceability and component durability.
- Length accuracy is improved with the use of a new measuring circuit design that does not require a nitrogen charged accumulator.
- The use of the C-series hydraulic valve design provides better hydraulic flows and greater speeds for improved productivity.
