T-MAR cable yarders - Canadian made with global appeal

T-Mar has produced a new swing yarder for big timber – The Log Champ 650.

The yarders are designed and built in Canada. The new Log Champ 650 was on display at Demo 2016, and it certainly seems like a well thought through machine that embraces the type of technology needed to take large wood yarding to the next level. Upon the completion of Demo, the 650 at the stand was to be shipped to a customer in New Zealand. T-MAR describes it as the safest, most productive and most efficient yarder they have ever built. It is powered by a Cat C15 Acert turbocharged, air to air after-cooled engine that produces 349 kW (475 hp) at 2,100 rpm. The transmission is a Cat CX31 Powershift with a lockup torque converter with 5 forward speeds. The winch has a side by side main drum arrangement with large diameter cores. Regenerative braking is possible in both directions. The main drums can operate independently or in tandem. The main drum has a capacity for 560 m (1,840 ft) of 2.2 cm (0.875 in) cable, with a maximum line pull of 43,000 kg (95,000 lb). It has an air actuated main pulling clutch with a water cooled slip clutch. The haulback drum has a capacity for 1,200 m (3,950 ft) of 2.2 cm (0.875 in) cable, with a maximum line pull of 43,000 (95,000 lb). The clutch configuration is the same as the main line drum. It also has 1,370 m (4,500 ft) of strawline capacity. All the drums use Lebus style lagging.

The gantry is 12.8 m (42 ft) high and a lowering package comes standard. The boom is 18 m (60 ft) long and contains 51 cm (20 in) diameter mainline sheaves and a 61 cm (24 in) diameter haulback sheave. The cable yarder has a tracked undercarriage with 71cm (28 in) wide pads. 11 heavy duty excavator rollers are used. The yarder has 79,000 kg (175,000 lb) of swing talk. Dual piston hydraulic pumps provide the oil flow for travel, swing, boom hoist and the guylines. It uses variable pressure control for the swing. The fuel tank capacity is a mammoth 1,300 litres. The entire machine weighs 63,500 kg (140,000 lb).

The cab has a rear entry forestry style cab with joystick controls for swing and yarding functions, and a hand throttle as standard. The cab can be heated and air-conditioned. It makes use of thermostat control. The cab is tilted hydraulically. The yarder uses a Parker IQAN control system with a touchscreen gauge cluster. It makes use of on screen machine diagnostics. The control system is integrated with the engine and transmission. Source: http://www.tmarequipment.com/
