The Scania Driver Competition is the world’s largest such event.
The safety, sustainability and fuel economy of road transports rely heavily on one factor – the driver skills. To raise the profile of the professionals making a living on the road, the truck manufacturer Scania organizes the world’s largest driver competition Scania Driver Competitions, a series of challenges that put over 350,000 professional drivers’ skills to the test. Nokian Tyres provides the trucks used in the Finnish qualification challenges with top-notch tires.
When it comes to safety, professional drivers have a big responsibility. They do their job driving heavy trucks in all weather conditions, on roads full of passenger traffic. The ever-changing conditions and situations mean there is no substitute to their driver skills. The winning of the driver competition requires determination, courage and the ability to be the best driver of the new generation.
Scania Driver Competitions is a Europe-wide event with local qualification rounds, National Finals and finally one European Final. The qualifications include driving tests such as safe and economical driving and first aid skills. There is also a Water Challenge, which consists of manoeuvring the truck without splashing the water tank attached to it. Knock the King tests the driver’s ability to manoeuvre the vehicle calmly in tight spaces, and Boardwalk tests how they can estimate the space taken by the vehicle when driving in reverse.
The trucks used in the Finnish qualifications are equipped with Nokian Tyres products. The steering axle tyre of choice is the flagship winter product for trucks and buses, Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck F2. The drive axle tyres are the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E and the trailer is fitted with Nokian E-Truck Trailer tyres. Source
