An innovation by JCB that reduces fuel consumption on their backhoes and allows operators to get to the worksite quicker has been given the Queen’s award. The innovation consists of a patented TorqueLock system that eliminates torque convertor slippage, allowing lower fuel consumption and faster speeds when travelling uphill. Source: www.jcb.com
Freightliner introduces its AMT3 automated-manual transmission for trucks.
The news transmission is for business class M2 vehicles. It has smart electronics for smoother gear shifting and improved fuel consumption. The AMT3 eliminates the torque convertor and instead couples the engine to the transmission with a hydraulically actuated clutch. This minimises torque interruption during acceleration.
