New publication - Road Haulage of Round Timber: Code of Practice

The Timber Transport Forum of the UK has released the 4th edition of their log transport best practice document.

The 28 page document provides a general statement of the legal and technical issues related to log haulage in Great Britain. The document is divided into the following sections:
 
  • Introduction – Providing the background and aim of the document.
  • Vehicle specifications – An overview of the different vehicle types and their specifications is provided as an annexure. Load weighing devices, overloading and reducing ground pressure on vehicles is discussed.
  • Road network – Amongst others, forest roads, road damage from overloading and road defect reporting is included.
  • Loading timber – Safety, loading, security of loads and preventing water and ground pollution are covered.
  • Transporting timber – This section includes route planning, driving and efficient driving.
  • Unloading timber
  • Improving roundwood haulage – Issues such as continuous improvement, communication, training and biosecurity are dealt with.

A list of supporting documents and annexures is also attached.
