New logging book - Working in Harvesting Teams

This comprehensive publication by Per-Erik Persson should be on the bookshelf of all harvesting foresters and contractors using CTL systems.

“Working in Harvesting Teams” consists of two books. The first book covers basic knowledge, and the second, practical production. The books were originally compiled in Swedish, with the first editions dating back to the 1970’s. The books have been comprehensively updated and are now available in English (only Part 2), Finnish, Lithuanian and Latvian. Part 1 is currently being translated and Logging-on will let readers know the moment it is released. The books are already used in additional countries outside of Europe, such as Canada, Japan and Australia. They have been written to meet the needs of forest managers, contractors, colleges and universities. Over 650 photographs, illustrations and drawings have been used. The second book (Part 2: Practical Production), which focuses on the work environment, quality and production, consists of the following sections:

  1. Harvesting forests
  2. Forwarding: basic concepts
  3. The work at the landing site
  4. Forwarding systems
  5. Improving the main trail
  6. Planning the landing site
  7. Handling GROT (Swedish for logging residue): An introduction
  8. Handling GROT: Planning and preparation
  9. GROT forwarding and further transport

The final three chapters dealing with “GROT” are also published as a separate book titled “Green Energy from the Forest”. The author of the book, Per-Erik Persson, has a degree in forest engineering, and has spent over 4000 hours producing the books, including spending much time in the forest. Logging-on is in possession of the well presented hard-cover book, and confirms that it is very practical and packed with good information.
