Komatsu releases their new S132 harvester head

The S132 has been designed for demanding conditions such as crooked trees and difficult trunk shapes.

The key factors that allow this are the heads two-wheeled feed and fully automatic knife pressure that allows the trunk to be rotated in the head even when poor form is encountered. It can be fitted with three different roller types. Two are designed for coniferous species and are configured with V-set ribs for good self-cleaning of the rollers from bark and wood. The third is designed for debarking broad-leaf trees and is able to rotate trees for optimal debarking.

The S132 has four moving delimbing knives. Three are hydraulically controlled and the fourth is moved with a sensor. The sensor influences all the delimbing knives contact pressure against the stem to ensure sufficient, but not excessive, force. The delimbing knife controller ensures the lowest possible friction between the stem and the head. This increased control improves fuel consumption and measurement accuracy. There is also a fixed delimbing knife above the saw box for delimbing trees with branches close to the ground.

The saw unit can have either manual of automatic chain tensioning and can be equipped for colour-marking. Source: http://www.komatsuforest.com/
