Structural changes will result in the IJFE continuing to publish the quality peer-reviewed research that they are known for. The journal has a global focus on all kinds of forest management (such as short and long rotation; uneven-aged and even-aged) and all uses of forest biomass. Examples of topics typically covered include felling, processing, transportation, operations planning and control, machine design, forest access planning and construction, human factors engineering, and education and training. Due to the current interest in using forest biomass for energy, the IJFE specifically welcomes papers on this topic.
The editor of the IJFE is Ola Lindroos of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. He is backed up by a strong editorial team from around the world. Changes at the journal include a much faster publication rate due to quicker reviewing and articles being published online as soon as they are ready. Manuscripts submitted during 2012 will be published free of charge. A reduced page fee will be introduced from 2013.
Due to the current interest in forest biomass for energy, the current initiative by Dominik Roser and Lauri Sikanen to start the Journal for Forest Energy (JFE) will join forces with the IJFE to create a much better and stronger IJFE. Typical forest biomass for energy topics that will be included will be harvesting systems and logistics of forest biomass, sustainability of forest biomass production and utilisation, biomass from short rotation forests and biomass resource availability.
